Nitish Kumar will lead NDA in Bihar elections, says Amit Shah.

Source – thehindu.com

Bharatiya Janata Party president and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said Nitish Kumar would lead the NDA in the Assembly election in Bihar due this year.

“I want to make it clear once and for all that NDA will contest the next Assembly election in Bihar under Nitish Kumar….Lalu’s dream to become chief minister again will not be fulfilled”, said Mr. Shah, while addressing a public meeting as part of the party’s ongoing Jan Jagran Abhiyan (people’s outreach programme) on the new citizenship law, CAA, in Vaishali, near Patna.

While listing the achievements of the NDA governments in Bihar and at the Centre, Mr. Shah slammed the Opposition and the Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad. “We took Bihar from lantern age to LED age, from loot to law and order, fodder scam to protection of cows and from jungle raj to janata raj”, he said.

He also appealed to the audience to dial 88662 on their mobile phone to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asked how many of them dialled the number. However, very few hands were raised.

“The new citizenship law is not for taking away anyone’s citizenship but to give citizenship to those who were persecuted and oppressed in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh and seek refuge in our country”, explained Mr. Shah, while asking people, “whether we should give them citizenship or not?”. “But, the opposition Congress party, Lalu Prasad, Arvind Kerjriwal and Mamata Banerjee are opposing this…they speak the same language of Pakistan’s PM Imran Khan”, he added.

“It was the Congress government which had divided the country earlier on religious grounds…30% Hindus were living each in East (now Bangladesh) and west Pakistan but today there are only 7% Hindus in Bangladesh and 15% in Pakistan — who is responsible for this?”, asked Mr. Shah. “Lalu, Rahul and Company should answer where they have gone”, he said.

“When slogans like Bharat tere tukde honge hazaar were chanted in JNU, the Modi government sent them to jail but the Kejriwal government was opposing it…don’t you think they should be sent to jail?”, Mr. Shah asked the audience. When the new Citizenship Act came in there was communal tension in several parts of the country. “Congress party, Mamata Banerjee, Arvind Kejriwal and Co. are responsible for the communal tension over CAA”, he alleged.

The BJP chief declared that “the process of construction of a Ram temple will begin in Ayodhya within four months”. He listed the abrogation of Article 370, 35 (A) and surgical strikes in Pakistan as the government’s achievements.

Mr. Shah asked party leaders and workers to undertake a door-to-door campaign in the State and explain to people the new citizenship law and how the Opposition has been spreading rumours over it.

On Tuesday Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had come to Gaya in Bihar to remove ‘misgivings’ on CAA but protesters sent up black balloons during his speech.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav too began his four-day Pratishodh Yatra in Muslim-dominated Seemanchal (border districts) on Thursday to intensify the anti-CAA stir.

Dalai Lama visits Bihar CM’s residence, prays for peace.

Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama called on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday at his official residence here, and held a prayer ceremony for peace and well-being of all, official sources said.

Mr. Kumar accorded a warm welcome to the exiled Buddhist monk, and presented him with a bouquet and ‘angavastram’, following which they posed for pictures, the sources said.

The Dalai Lama thereafter offered prayers before a ’Bodhi tree’ at the Chief Minister’s 1, Anney Marg bungalow along with other Buddhist priests, praying for all-round peace and prosperity.

The ‘Bodhi tree’ at the CM’s official residence is a sapling of the Mahabodhi tree at Bodh Gaya, under which Lord Buddha had attained enlightenment more than 2,000 years ago.

Several officials, including Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi, Assembly Speaker Vijay Kumar Choudhary, legislative council officiating chairman Haroon Rashid and state minister Ashok Choudhary, were also present at the occasion.

As a parting gift, the Chief Minister presented the monk with an idol of Lord Buddha.

The Dalai Lama visits Bihar every year in December-January as part of an annual retreat during which he offers public discourses at Bodh Gaya and conducts the “Kalachakra” tantric initiation ceremony.

Last week, the Chief Minister had called on the Dalai Lama at the Tibetan temple in Bodh Gaya, and apprised him of his government’s ‘Jal Jeevan Hariyali’ campaign.

Amit Shah sounds poll bugle in Bihar, says NDA to fight assembly elections under Nitish.

Source – indiatoday.in

Bihar elections this year will be fought under the leadership of Nitish Kumar. BJP and JDU would contest elections together and form the next government,” declared Amit Shah at BJP’s Citizenship Amendment Act awareness drive in Vaishali, Bihar.

Shah’s comment is seen as an attempt to silent motor mouth like Sanjay Paswan who has embarrassed BJP by demanding next CM face from the party. Paswan’s similar demand couple of months back had forced Shah to make same declaration.

Amit Shah also lashed out at the opposition while speaking at the CAA awareness drive blaming the Congress and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the violent protest that took place across the country immediately after Citizenship Amendment Bill was passed in both the Houses of Parliament.

“Congress and Mamta Banerjee & company have orchestrated the violence that has erupted across the country after CAB was passed in the parliament,” Shah said.

Mentioning Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Amit Shah blamed the opposition for misleading the people on CAA and propagating a false narrative against it.

RJD MLA Faraz Fatmi attends JD(U) feast, backs Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on NRC.

Source – deccanherald.com

Amid the fast-changing political equations in Bihar, an RJD MLA Faraz Fatmi on Wednesday attended the feast organised by the ruling JD(U) on the occasion of Makar Sankranti here in the State Capital.

Lauding Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for clearing the air that “NRC won’t be implemented in Bihar,” the RJD MLA questioned his own party leader Tejashwi Yadav for taking out a ‘Pratirodh yatra’ (Protest march) on January 16 from Muslim-dominated Kishanganj.

“When Nitish ji has made his stand on NRC loud and clear, what is the justification for Tejashwi to embark on a yatra on this contentious issue,” said Faraz, whose father MAA Fatmi was Union Minister in UPA-I when RJD was an alliance partner in the Congress-led Government.

The senior Fatmi had represented Darbhanga as RJD MP after defeating BJP’s Kirti Azad in 2004. However, denied Lok Sabha ticket in 2019, MAA Fatmi quit RJD and joined the JD(U).

His son Faraz continues to be RJD MLA and is the second legislator in Lalu’s outfit to have openly spoken against Tejashwi Yadav. Earlier, Maheshwar Yadav, the RJD MLA too had praised Nitish and questioned Tejashwi’s leadership.

“As of now, in Bihar, there is no bigger face than Nitish. I am sure he will form the Government again in 2020,” said Faraz, one of the prominent Muslim face of the RJD.

Meanwhile, the Bihar JD(U) president Vashishta Narayan Singh, who hosted the chuda-dahi bhoj (feast of flattened rice and curd), said, “From today onwards, the sun has moved Uttarayan. In this auspicious period, you will see many prominent leaders deserting their parent party and joining the JD(U).”

At Bihar rally, Yogi Adityanath says anti-CAA protests are conspiracy hatched ‘from afar’, slams Opposition for ‘adding fuel to fire’.

Source – firstpost.com

Gaya: The countrywide anti-CAA protests are a “conspiracy” hatched from afar by those resentful of a united and grand India and these are being aided by a “crooked” opposition, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath alleged on Tuesday.

Addressing a rally organized by the BJP in support of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, which was passed less than two months ago, the firebrand BJP leader charged that those opposing the legislation were committing the “paap” (sin) of working against national interests.

Sushil Kumar Modi (Bihar deputy chief minister) and Sanjay Jaiswal (state BJP chief) have articulated very well how the CAA is about granting citizenship to persecuted refugees and not about taking it away from anybody, he said.

“For taking such a step, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah deserve acclaim. Instead they are being attacked”, Yogi lamented.

“Protests are taking place across the country and a ‘kutil’ (crooked) Opposition is adding fuel to the fire. But the people of the country need to understand that it is a conspiracy hatched from afar.

“The strings are being pulled by those who are resentful of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat’ (united India, grand India) which is becoming a reality under Modi”, he claimed.

Seeking to underscore that the Modi government did not discriminate against people on the basis of their religious identity, Yogi asked so many people have benefitted from the welfare schemes like Ujjwala Yojana and the Ayushman Bharat Yojana.

“Was anybody asked, before being included as a beneficiary, as to what is his or her religion or caste?” he remarked.

But those feeling threatened by the new India keep looking for an opportunity to thwart Modis efforts to build Ek Bharat, Shreshth Bharat, he said.

“This new India does not cower, like the Congress did, before Pakistan’s atomic power.

“The neighbouring country is today fearful that it may end up losing even the Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir, after the Article 370, which Jawaharlal Nehru wrongly introduced, was abrogated”, the Uttar Pradesh chief minister said, evoking wild applause.

The monk-turned-politician, who also heads the Gorakhnath Temple, began his speech recalling his spiritual ancestors deep links with Gaya and the ancient links between eastern Uttar Pradesh and this central Bihar town pointing out that Lord Buddha came from Kapilavastu situated in Siddharthnagar district in the adjoining state  and attained Enlightenment at Bodh Gaya.

In the town after which a reserved Lok Sabha constituency is also named, Yogi appealed to Dalits reverence for BR Ambedkar.

“The revolutionary-turned-freedom fighter Sri Aurobindo had said that the biggest virtue, in current times is to work for national interest and the biggest sin is to work against it. The Opposition is committing a paap (sin). To understand this, you should take the contrasting examples of Ambedkar and Jogendra Nath Mandal”, Yogi said.

“Ambedkar remained loyal to his country while Mandal fell for Jinnah’s designs, helped the creation of Pakistan and became a minister in that country.

“While Ambedkar is a revered figure, Mandal felt so stifled in Pakistan that within a decade he resigned and came to Kolkata where he spent his last years living a life of anonymity. Let it be known to whoever works against national interests shall be condemned to a similar fate”, he added.

He said while coming to the venue he was bemused to see posters put up on the walls by the RJD-Congress combine opposing CAA in the name of the Constitution.

“A party which had strangled the Constitution by imposing the Emergency has the audacity to do so”, Yogi said taking a swipe at the grand old party.

The Congress always surrendered before those who ran their “shops of fatwas” and expected the country to be run as per their decrees and not the Constitution. They never cared for the humiliation faced by Muslim women because of triple talaq and it required a Narendra Modi to illegalize this practice, he said.

“Congress, similarly, played a scare-monger on Ram temple issue, claiming blood will be spilled on the streets if the matter was taken to its logical conclusion. Now it has been settled once and for all and on this auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti I declare that Ayodhya in my state  will soon be ready with a Ram Mandir”, he added.

Before ending his speech, Yogi said he would like to underscore the need for the society at large to be on guard against “deplorable attempts” (kutsit cheshtaein) to mislead the nation on CAA.

He exhorted those gathered at the programme to fan out and tell the people that this law is about granting citizenship and not taking it away and that it has nothing to do with NRC. NRC was an exercise that took place in Assam, upon the Supreme Courts direction, the UP CM added.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in the state assembly Tejashwi Yadav is scheduled to attend a dharna against CAA in the evening here at Shanti Bagh, barely a km away from  Gandhi Maidanm, the venue of Yogi’s function.

As part of the BJP’s nationwide pro-CAA campaign, party president and Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to address a rally in Vaishali on coming Thursday.

Bihar District Magistrate Issues Order to Close Schools for ‘Heat Wave’ Instead of ‘Cold Wave’.

Source – news18.com

In a major typographical error, the Bihar District magistrate has issued an order requiring all schools in the area to be shut down due to a heatwave. In winter. Over the past few weeks, northern parts of India have been experiencing cold wave like situations with temperatures barely touching double digits in Delhi and surrounding areas.

Bihar, too, has been experiencing a really cold winter and the IMD (Indian Meteorological Department) has issued a warning for colder days ahead. The Meteorological Centre at Patna said that the temperature would fall at least two to three degrees below normal starting from the weekend. However, the Gopalganj Distric Magistrate seemed to have mistaken the cold wave for a heat wave.

ANI reports that the District Magistrate issued a notification for all schools in the district to be closed on January 13 and 14. However, in the notification that was actually issued, the reason mentioned was “heat wave” instead of ” cold wave.”

DM Arsas Aziz writes in the order, “Whereas, it has been made to appear to me that due to continuing heatwave weather in the district, health and life of children are at risk”. He further writes, “…prohibit the academic activities of all Private and Government Schools from January 13 up to January 14 in class I to VIII”.

He claimed to be an additional superintendent of police-rank officer currently working with the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and said that he wanted to share some information. So our staff brought him to him and while interacting, I asked him for his identification card. He said he cannot share it and his tone suddenly changed,” added senior PI Gaikwad.

The Kondhwa police called up local intelligence officials and verified that no such person existed in the intelligence bureau, said police.

Tiwari was arrested on Saturday and was produced in a local court on Sunday. The court has remanded him to judicial custody. The police have requested the court to not grant him bail while he is lodged at the Yerawada police station, according to senior PI Gaikwad.
